[Debian-med-packaging] Bug#920545: [Request for comments about Python3 migration] PbSuite

Hi folks,

it is time to decide about some packages which are upstream Python2 and
will probably not supported any more so we would become upstream for the
Python3 migration. We probably need to confess that we do not have the
capacity to do so. My first candidate for this decision is pbsuite. I
stumbled upon this due to bug #920545 which is serious for
python-intervaltree-bio since autopkgtest regressions are now RC.

Its only purpose was that it is a precondition for pbsuite. I had a
look at the actively used installations of pbsuite in pobcon[1] At no
time we had more than 10 actively used installations of users who are
contributing via popcon. That was in 2017 (at that time upstream had
provided the last SVN commits on Sourceforge) and we are now down to
maximum 2 active usage cases.

For me that boils down to "never massively used with tendency to not
used at all any more". Our only Uploader Afif has droped himself from
this position to declare that he does not want to continue maintenance.
Is there any volunteer who intends to spent time into a Python3
migration and is aware that by doing so this might involve active
maintenance?

I personally would prefer to focus my time on more actively used code.

Kind regards

      Andreas.
