Hi Everyone,

2019 is here, and our team of contributors has been working at a
steady pace to meet our goals for the Buster release. In the
past month, we’ve discusses our goals for FreedomBox on GitLab
and conference calls. From these conversations, it’s clear to me
that everyone has some priorities for 2019.

That’s good, because we have a lot to do this year. And the year
will disappear if we let it. I talked with Sunil and Joseph
about this, and we agreed that it’s a good idea to clearly
identify our goals for 2019 and create some timelines. 2019 can
be the year that we overcome some stubborn challenges, but only
if we make a plan and stick to it. Though many of us know our
priorities as individuals, the process of setting goals and
timelines should be a community activity. All contributors
should be part of the goal-setting process, and, after it's
done, I hope we can commit to a shared set of goals.

To all of our
contributors and developers, what do you want our team to do in
2019? What features should we add? What features should we
improve? What are your priorities for development in 2019? While
these questions are mainly directed at developers and
contributors, users are welcome to reply too.
A good place to start is the summary of the FreedomBox
Foundation Summit, which was held in November 2018. The summary
document lists the goals which we set at the Summit. You can
download the document here:

Please feel free to email your feedback in this thread or to me
privately at <haidar@freedomboxfoundation.org>. I will be
organizing all responses in a document for our team to review.
If you want your feedback to be anonymous, just let me know and
I won’t attach your name to anything.

Let’s take the next week to brainstorm and submit ideas. On our
community call on Sunday, February 24th at 17:00 UTC, I’ll share
the feedback I’ve received, and we’ll discuss our goals, set
priorities, and try to come to a consensus.

Nine years after Eben Moglen delivered “Freedom in the Cloud,”
FreedomBox has become a thriving ecosystem with a lot of moving
parts. Our challenges aren’t small, but they also aren’t
insurmountable. We can meet our goals if we agree to push
forward together. Thus, my main goal for this process is to
achieve consensus. If we can do that, then 2019 will be a year
to be proud of.

Let me know your goals for 2019. I look forward to discussing on
February 24th!

Best,
Danny
