These should work with the tripplite_usb driver and the USB cable.
This driver is marked "experimental" because the protocol was reverse
engineered, but they seem to be able to shut the system down at the
right time. I don't know what the status is with the serial tripplite
driver.

That's the way packages are set up, to minimize the lines of code that
have to be run as root. While testing, you can add "-u root" to the
driver command line, but the best solution is to set up hotplug or
udev to change ownership so that the driver can access the port
running as the "nut" user.
