This was sent to me privately about using the latest packages in Ubuntu (they
are unmodified). I'd appreciate it if someone could have a look as I'm tied up
with work all day.

After installing clamav-0.98.4+dfsg-0ubuntu1~12.04.1~ppa1 from your PPA
I see this error when starting/stopping the freshclam service:

~# /etc/init.d/clamav-freshclam start
Usage: pkill [-SIGNAL] [-fvx] [-n|-o] [-P PPIDLIST] [-g PGRPLIST] [-s
SIDLIST]
        [-u EUIDLIST] [-U UIDLIST] [-G GIDLIST] [-t TERMLIST] [PATTERN]

Line 284 of "/etc/init.d/clamav-freshclam start" reads:
  pkill -0 -F $PidFile $NAME 2>/dev/null

System details:
# cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS"

Reading the manpage of pkill I can't find -0 and -F parameters...

Can you help me?
Feel free to ask for further info.

Best regards
Claudio
