I know that symbols files are not working well for C++ based stuff from 
a POV of maintenance.
OTOH I've managed the handling of symbols for older versions of systemc 
quite regularly if a new GCC version comes around the corner. But I'm 
not addicted to keep the symbols file. If you think we should drop that 
file I'm fine with that.
