Closing this out. It turned out to be a bug in Lyx 2.5.0~RC2 and was 
fixed in the 2.5.0~RC2-3 upload (#1124371). Many thanks to the LyX 
package maintainer + upstream for diagnosing what was going on and 
quickly fixing it.
