That would be an interesting challenge to look into. I suspect it to be 
non-trivial especially for smart fonts to get the build env right, OOo 
is a rather big dependency...

/me makes a note for the future.

I do agree with you that building from source is where we should go for 
all our font packages, but it will take time...
