Right; these are either non-standard Inkscape extensions, or standard
but not in the subset of SVG implemented by librsvg. (I don't know which.)

librsvg is what's used by GNOME (and probably other Gtk-based
environments) so it seemed best to avoid features it can't deal with in
the installed icons.

It's fine that you used fancy Inkscape features to make these SVGs look
nicer, it just means we can't assume that a "normal" SVG renderer will
know what to do with them. That means menus like the one in GNOME Shell
should consume these icons in bitmap rather than vector form, as g-d-p
now does. Not a real problem IMO.
