Subject: evince: crashes with "X Window System error" on startup: BadDrawable

Package: evince
Version: 49~alpha-2
Severity: grave

I have no idea if this is a local configuration issue (probably) or
something more widespread, but I have no idea how to track down the
source of the bug. Running evince on any PDF file crashes
immediately. This happened on my testing machine today after a
dist-upgrade, though evince was not upgraded, so I don't know which
package is causing the error. Running evince on any file gives the
following error:

$ evince /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/policy.pdf.gz

(evince:158225): Gdk-WARNING **: 16:16:20.323: The program 'evince' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
 (Details: serial 1013 error_code 9 request_code 149 (unknown) minor_code 4)
 (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
 that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
 To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
 variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
 backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I have no idea how to proceed from here :( Running evince under gdb
didn't help, as there are no debugging symbols.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!

 Julian
