Well, I waited quite a while before reporting this and IMO it doesn't
hurt to have a bug-report about a new upstream version since that
shows people that the packagers know about the new upstream release.

I don't think Debian should patch GTK+. If you think typeahead in the
file chooser is important, please focus on updating to gtk+-2.6.

Good to know that an update is planned. We will be releasing GIMP 2.2
this weekend and GTK+-2.4.14 is a must for using the new GIMP. With
older GTK+ versions users will perceive the new GIMP as a regression.
