It looks like the problem is with the wmcliphist program. I use
that under wmaker, thats why I could only reproduce the bug under
wmaker. Now I tried it out, and the bug is reproducible running
wmcliphist under blackbox (and gedit, for the text widget).

I tried similar 'selecton monitoring' programs, like klipper and
xfce4-clipman-plugin, but they don't trigger the bug, so maybe
wmcliphist breaks something when it reads the clipboard. (Maybe it
resets the selection?)
