Thanks for the heads up :)

The patch does indeed add a string, and AFAIK Debian tries to not
include any new untranslated strings. 

However, I did find a similar translated string in the eog source,
"Image loading failed for %s". I'm not up to scratch with gettext, but
isn't it possible to use that string instead, or will this create
unnecessary confusion?

If it is possible, I would gladly work on this.
