mutter is a Wayland compositor, but it's also an X11 window and compositing<br>
manager at the same time. Even when running in native-Wayland mode, it<br>
manages X11 windows (if any) in its Xwayland instance, to provide<br>
compatibility with older applications.<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>Sure, but the string "Running GNOME Shell (using mutter XXX) as a X11 window and compositing manager"</div><div>doesn't appear in my journal at all before installing 44.beta, only the "... as a Wayland compositor" variant.</div><div><br></div><div>Cheers, Roderich</div></div></div>
