When I set out to establish my own practice in downtown Zug, I wanted to create a forward-thinking, patient-centered, resource-competent, digital-centered clinic that would serve both local and international communities, young ladies and old men…. Our practice, which opened on March 1st, 2024, reflects modern approaches to healthcare, combining digital innovation with personalized service to enhance moderne patient experience.</p><p>In this article, I’ll share insights into how we built this practice from the ground up, focusing on leadership, technology, and patient care omni resource supply chain / logistics. These reflections might resonate with professionals across industries, especially those navigating the intricate balance between technology and human touch and the frustrating experience to play the interface for not working digital interfaces and other lost bottom-up perspectives. We call it as well interface, but <span style="text-decoration:underline;">human to digital to human face</span> <a href="https://swissmedicine.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f58b0fad13b6a9d2156ec9e05&id=cb3f14fd40&e=1765dbec7a" target="_blank">h2d2h.com</a> !</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">A New Leadership Model: Digital and Human-Centered</span></strong></p><p>When it comes to running a medical practice, traditional hierarchies often slow down decision-making and patient interaction. That’s why we opted for a low-hierarchy digital-controlled structure, where every team member is empowered to take ownership, responsibility and learnings,, that should never end.</p><p>Our digital front office is a cornerstone of this approach. Patients are greeted by a user-friendly, interactive system that allows them to scan a QR code, check-in digitally, and seamlessly book appointments or access the clinic’s services. The waiting room is designed to minimize the actual waiting experience, with relaxing music, comfortable seating, and a calm atmosphere. Rather than feeling like a place of delay, it feels like an environment that supports well-being.</p><p>Additionally, the simple room is equipped with advanced medical technology, from ultrasound machines to electrocardiogram devices, and a shared-screen system at the physician’s desk. This allows for co-creation between the doctor and the patient—projecting real-time medical data on-screen so patients can engage with their health journey more actively. This level of transparency fosters trust and empowers patients to understand their conditions and treatments better.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">Material Design: Technology and Comfort Intertwined</span></strong></p><p>The physical layout of the clinic is not just about aesthetics, but functionality. For example, at the entrance, there is a digital shop where they can see a variety of health services, educational brochures, and scheduling tools. The Kanban board in the clinic ensures that we manage patient flow efficiently while also catering to those unexpected non-structured needs that inevitably arise in a medical setting.</p><p>One of the most unique aspects of our setup is the incorporation of technology to assist with sensitive patient interactions. For example, our "indiscreet room" features a reclining, sterile white examination table equipped for blood draws and abdominal ultrasounds. These procedures are done in the most private and respectful manner, supported by technology that minimizes discomfort and maximizes accuracy.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">Streamlined Workflow: Efficiency Without Compromise</span></strong></p><p>Running a medical practice requires a great deal of organizational efficiency. In our clinic, we have adopted a work-leveling system, where one individual manages all patient activities within their scope of care. This ensures consistency and fosters strong patient-practitioner relationships. We also employ “Turbo tools”—software solutions designed to streamline sensitive patient documentation, financial billing, and issue resolution in real-time.</p><p>Our approach is digital-first: no paper, no printers, and no stamps. From day one, we have operated without any traditional paper-based systems. Every document is digitized, digitally secured shared, allowing for better data management, faster processing, and an eco-friendly footprint.</p><p>We’ve also set up our practice in a way that allows us to scale efficiently without being tied to traditional industry organizations like AGZG, MFE, or FMH. This independence allows us to offer FMH discount rates to patients while providing high-quality care.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">The Launch: A Day to Remember</span></strong></p><p>The grand opening on March 1st, 2024, was a milestone. We celebrated with an Apero, and from that day on, we’ve been providing comprehensive family medicine and ultrasound services. Our online platforms, including a digital shop and appointment scheduling through <a href="https://swissmedicine.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f58b0fad13b6a9d2156ec9e05&id=b111ab47a3&e=1765dbec7a" target="_blank">www.heile-mich.ch</a> or OneDoc, have made patient engagement smoother. To further enhance communication, our phone system uses intelligent voice routing to manage patient calls efficiently.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">Challenges in Building a Practice</span></strong></p><p>Of course, no venture is without its challenges. Selecting and managing support staff, such as laboratory and online platform personnel, has been a continuous process of learning and adjustment. While initial discussions were promising, implementing necessary changes has sometimes been slower than anticipated, particularly concerning data integration between our online platform and payment systems, between the not uniquely labeled laboratory tubes and the ownership of your laboratory resultes, that needs still papers / mails..</p><p>Despite these obstacles, we remain committed to providing the highest quality of care and improving our operations. Each hurdle is an opportunity to refine our processes and deliver better service.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 20px">Who Are Our Patients?</span></strong></p><p class="last-child">O ur patient base is as diverse as Zug itself. We cater to a multi-lingual community, offering physical if possible virtual services in Swiss-German, English, French, and Italian. Reviews on platforms like Google Business have highlighted the positive, multi-lingual feedback from patients, showing that we’ve struck a chord with both locals and expatriates. We plan to relocate to a more affordable office with parking by November 2025. This new space will allow us to integrate external labs and imaging facilities, making our services even more comprehensive.</p><p class="last-child">O ne of our more ambitious goals is to raise CHF 20 million to establish ten IT development teams. These teams will work on creating a patented device-independent co-operating system called BubblePress. The aim is to build a central informatics system that blends human interaction with digital tools. This system will be loved not only by patients and health professionals, and even regulatory authorities, creating a unified, user-friendly omniservice experience.
