D-I already works with GPT by switching to GRUB 2, which supports this partition
map natively in upstream.

I don't see any real benefit in adding more features to GRUB Legacy, specially
taking into account that upstream isn't going to support them, and there isn't
any real manpower (hint: volunteer before you complain) to maintain the features
we have now in Debian grub package, or even do proper bug triage.
