It is an incompatible change in the script and function files and you
tricked dpkg into not updating the 10_linux file.

I left my 10_linux unchanged and put a patched 08_linux in front of it,
of course my 08_linux failed as well since the sorting function was
removed in grub. But that was easy to fix.

It does not have to do with out-of-repository kernels.

P.S.: Yes, my method doubles all kernel entries, but the ones created by
the local scripts are first.
