Some duplicated effort indeed, but if I was overly concerned about that 
I should myself have replied to this thread _before_ spending time on 
it. :-)

I will now rebase my work on top of yours.  From your terse changelog 
entry it seems you missed a range of copyright changes, including a 
couple new licenses used and one additional nonfree file neeeding to be 
stripped.  So it seems my work was not a waste, and while waiting for my 
slower moving changes to get finalized we can all test your release.
