<html><body><div>Package: fd-find</div><div>Version: 10.5.0-1</div><div>Severity: normal</div><div><br></div><div>Dear Maintainer,</div><div><br></div><div>Previously reported at</div><div><a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=936036">https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=936036</a> - was closed and</div><div>archived, it had some blockers preventing issue from being resolved,</div><div>they're probably gone by now, so reporting again.</div><div><br></div><div>`fd-find` package bundles completions - e.g.</div><div>`/usr/share/fish/completions/fd.fish`.</div><div>`fdfind` upstream is typically installed as `fd`, but since this name</div><div>collides with other Debian package</div><div>(<a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://packages.debian.org/sid/shells/fdclone">https://packages.debian.org/sid/shells/fdclone</a>), in apt it's installed</div><div>as `fdfind`.</div><div>So when someone is trying to do `fdfind <tab>`, the completions don't work</div><div>out-of-the-box, because only `fd.fish` is provided, not `fdfind.fish`.</div><div>To make bundled completions work, package is requiring user to symlink</div><div>`fdfind` as `fd` or add `/usr/lib/cargo/bin` to the PATH to make</div><div>`/usr/lib/cargo/bin/fd` accessible.</div><div><br></div><div>To fix this there are two possible solutions:</div><div>- bundle `fdfind.fish` instead of `fd.fish` - that resolves the issue, but</div><div> it breaks it for users already relying on `fd.fish`.</div><div> - but it's sort of a proper solution for this, because having `fd.fish`</div><div> means we suggest wrong completions for `fd` coming from `fdclone`</div><div> - `fdfind --gen-completions` generates completions for `fdfind`, not</div><div> `fd`, so this option is simple in implementation</div><div>- keep `fd.fish`, bundle additional `fdfind.fish` (it can either redirect</div><div> completions to `fd.fish` or can just duplicate the same instruction but</div><div> for `fdfind` name)</div><div> - note that symlink (`fdfind.fish` -> `fd.fish`) won't work here,</div><div> because `fd.fish` hardcodes that it works only for `fd` command -</div><div> e.g. `complete -c fd -l ignore-vcs -d 'Overrides --no-ignore-vcs'`</div><div> - keeps users relying on `fd.fish` happy</div><div><br></div><div>Since all existing `fdfind` installations are already affected by this,</div><div>I'll try to upstream adding a simple `fdfind.fish` (e.g. just</div><div>`fdfind --gen-completions fish | source`) to `fish-shell` itself, so that</div><div>will resolve it for older packages, but still this needs to be resolved in</div><div>Debian package too (also because bash and zsh completions are affected</div><div>too).</div><div><br></div></body></html>
