This may be a separate issue. For instance, if I try:

cventin:~> apt install -s libsolv0:i386/stable libsolv0:amd64
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
      apt needs root privileges for real execution.
      Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
      so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Selected version '0.6.5-1' (Debian:8.6/stable [i386]) for 'libsolv0:i386'
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libsolv0 : Breaks: libsolv0:i386 (!= 0.6.21-1+b1) but 0.6.5-1 is to be installed
 libsolv0:i386 : Breaks: libsolv0 (!= 0.6.5-1) but 0.6.21-1+b1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I get an error because the versions are different for architectures
i386 and amd64. But why didn't I get the same error with the nvidia
packages (avoiding a system in a broken state)?
