lightdm can't switch user under nvidia-driver

I have a video card gtx 650. I failed to switch user use "dm-tool
switch-to-user $USER". In logfile /var/log/Xorg.1.log I see driver is not
set to nvidia so it failed.
But if I generate xorg.conf with nvidia-xconfig, user switching works
fine. Seems that lightdm missed the xorg config somewhere. I also tried
gdm3, it works without xorg.conf.
