Indeed, removing the module parameter NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations (and the path where to store),
fixes this for 	510.85.02-5

(I've removed the complete line 
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/var/cache/nvidia
in my /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-options.conf)
