Actually I can reproduce both, but I don't see the reason for the difference
yet:

* FTBFS inside a Xen DomU to which I connect via SSH.
* Builds fine on my Thinkpad X250 locally in an uxterm.

Both are running Sid, and in both cases it makes no difference if I
build them on the system itself with debuild or if I build them with
pbuilder on the same system.

Connecting via SSH makes no difference either. Tried on the Thinkpad
with "ssh localhost". Maybe the init system? The Xen DomU runs
sysvinit, the Thinkpad systemd.

Florian and Dom: On which init systems did you experience the FTBFS and
the working build?
