All are mode 644.

Well, like debuild basicly does dpkg-buildpackage, pdebuild basicly does
cowbuilder --build plus the things all these devscripts do (check
debian/ subdir, make sure debian/rules is executable, move resulting debs
to .. to keep it compatible with all other devscripts).
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.  I'll check what the script is
trying and file a bug or fix the user-error.  :)
