I just had a similar problem with liblocale-msgfmt-perl. I ended up:
- force downloading the tarbal with ucan
- run git-import-orig --pristine-tar ../tarballs/libloca*.tgz

So messing with pristine-tar command may not be necessary. But if you could 
build the package and push the modif, all should be fine.

If I've followed the mails, I only need to upload sdl-image1.2. Is that right?
