It seems #498185 and #550517 were merged, but aren't actually the same bug;
#550517 is considerably easier.

I intend to enable debug symbols at some point, but it'll be in experimental
before reaching unstable (it'll have to go through the NEW queue, and I don't
want to block normal development in unstable).
