But I also discovered minor bugs in dzhandles extensions management: - The dzhandle help doesn't mention either of list-extensions, add-extension and remove-extension so far. Only the manpage mentions them. - 'dzhandle list-extensions' gives the same header as list-products: 'Listing products available for all version(s)'. This is confusing as it actually list extensions and not products. - Both /usr/share/zope/Extensions and /usr/local/share/zope/Extensions aren't provided, while the two respective Products do exist. At least the Products folder in /usr/local/share/zope is created by the zope-common postinst script, thus the respective Extensions folder should be created the same way. - Many Extensions are one single python script. Nevertheless dzhandle seems to support only folders as extensions. It would be great if *.py files in the global Extensions folder could be treaded as extensions as well. greetings, jonas -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-4-amd64-resivo (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages zope-common depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.23 Debian configuration management sy ii python2.4 2.4.5-5.2 An interactive high-level object-o zope-common recommends no packages. zope-common suggests no packages. -- debconf information: zope-common/instance-http-port: zope-common/remove-instance-without-data: abort zope-common/admin-user: admin zope-common/instance-zeo-port: zope-common/admin-automatic-password: zope-common/keep-data-on-purge: true * shared/zope/restart: end From fabio at tranchitella.it Wed Oct 1 11:02:14 2008 From: fabio at tranchitella.it (Fabio Tranchitella) Date: Wed, 1 Oct 2008 13:02:14 +0200 Subject: Bug#500773: dzhandle: minor issues with extensions management In-Reply-To: <20081001103157.GA27406@resivo.wgnet.de> References: <20081001103157.GA27406@resivo.wgnet.de> Message-ID: <20081001110214.GQ5585@mail.26dimensions.com> Hello Jonas, * 2008-10-01 12:59, Jonas Meurer wrote: > I just discovered that dzhandle supports global Extensions management, > which I appreciate. Correct grammar is vital for all effective written and spoken communications. Take a minute to read these sentences: 'I'm in the train; I'll be at work soon.' 'Everyone of us are ready for the performance appraisal.' 'Let me bring you to see the Manager.' 'Wanted: Part-time female Receptionist.' 'Peter, as well as other staff, have arrived for the meeting.' If you think these sentences are correct, you'll probably need our 3-day comprehensive, 'Perfecting Your Grammar' course. This course covers all the most important aspects of grammar that we need to improve, in order to be effective speakers and writers at work and in every communication situation in our lives. Please register for the workshop by 14 October. Are you curious about the corrections to the sentences? Click here for the answers. (The fee for the course is $688/-, no GST.) Once the final solution for the latin1 encoding was to use export PGCLIENTENCODING=LATIN1 in /etc/init.d/zope2.9 (it is a pure Etch machine) and the most obvious solution to replace LATIN1 by UTF-8 just has no effect. Even uncommenting the PGCLIENTENCODING has no effect. It should support encoding just fine. > Now I have really no idea how to convince Zope to full UTF-8 compatibility. Zope 2.x is NOT full UTF-8 compatible, that's the real problem; Zope 3 is much better on this regard. -- Fabio Tranchitella http://www.kobold.it Free Software Developer and Consultant http://www.tranchitella.it _____________________________________________________________________ 1024D/7F961564, fpr 5465 6E69 E559 6466 BF3D 9F01 2BF8 EE2B 7F96 1564 From tillea at rki.de Wed Oct 29 15:35:45 2008 From: tillea at rki.de (Andreas Tille) Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2008 16:35:45 +0100 (CET) Subject: Again encoding problems In-Reply-To: <20081029151510.GK21248@mail.26dimensions.com> References: <20081029151510.GK21248@mail.26dimensions.com> Message-ID: On Wed, 29 Oct 2008, Fabio Tranchitella wrote: > Did you try the lenny version of zope-psycopgda2? I backported it right now and can confirm that there is now the Encoding property and once you have Closed and Reopened the database connection strings seem to be fine now - at least at first view, I have to check in more detail. Many thanks for this helpful hint. > Zope 2.x is NOT full UTF-8 compatible, that's the real problem; Zope 3 is > much better on this regard. Well, porting to Zope 3 is no option for the moment. But the fact that Zope 2.x shows this trouble is kind of strange - isn't any Python string supposed to be UTF-8? So what is the source of the problem in Zope? Kind regards an thanks for your quick help Andreas. -- http://fam-tille.de From fabio at tranchitella.it Wed Oct 29 17:20:16 2008 From: fabio at tranchitella.it (Fabio Tranchitella) Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2008 18:20:16 +0100 Subject: Again encoding problems In-Reply-To: References: <20081029151510.GK21248@mail.26dimensions.com> Message-ID: <20081029172016.GL21248@mail.26dimensions.com> * 2008-10-29 16:36, Andreas Tille wrote: > Well, porting to Zope 3 is no option for the moment. No, a python string is in whatever encoding you want it to be: >>> a = '?' >>> b = a.decode('utf-8').encode('iso-8859-15') >>> a != b True Zope 3 only works with unicode strings, and it is way more easier to handle encoding only in the "output" working with unicode internally. -- Fabio Tranchitella http://www.kobold.it Free Software Developer and Consultant http://www.tranchitella.it _____________________________________________________________________ 1024D/7F961564, fpr 5465 6E69 E559 6466 BF3D 9F01 2BF8 EE2B 7F96 1564
