When I reboot my machine and run scanimage, it always it fails, I have pasted the very short log I get on failure below.</div><div><br></div><div>However, if I launch virtual box and then connect it to the scanner so that it grabs that USB device, then close virtual box, it starts working perfectly.</div><div><br></div><div>Since this is a multi-function device, is it possible that the printer service is locking access? Then grabbing the USB connection in virtualbox disconnects it from the printer service?</div><div><br></div><div>I am running the printer drivers provided on the canon website. Yes, the PPA is compiled with libusb. I just tested Ubuntu 18.04 with my<br>
USB scanner.<br>

I've seen in the log file that you might have connected your scanner<br>
with WiFi. Please disconnect WiFi and test the scanner via USB only.<br>

Please test with this command:<br>
$ SANE_DEBUG_PIXMA=21 scanimage 2>pixma.log >pixma.pnm<br>
<br>
and send me the logfile compressed as zip file.<br>
<br>
If this won't help, I'll need an USB scan log from a Windows machine<br>
using wireshark (read this for enabling USB support:<br>
<a href="https://wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/USB" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/USB</a>) or USBlyzer<br>
(<a href="http://www.usblyzer.com/download.htm" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">http://www.usblyzer.com/download.htm</a>). You can also run Windows in a<br>
VM, e.g. VirtualBox. Please send this log file also compressed with zip.<br>
