I've seen in https://sane-project.gitlab.io/website/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON and https://sane-project.gitlab.io/website/man/sane-pixma.5.html the Canon Pixma TR8500 series has not been testet yet via USB and you would be happy to get feedback.
I'm running Ubuntu 20.10. Just installed the TR8550 and it works fine.
Please let me know if you require any more details.
