<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div><br clear="all"></div><div><div>Dear SANE Developers,</div><div><br></div><div>I am writing to report a hardware revision of the <strong>Plustek OpticFilm 8100</strong> that is not recognized by the <code dir="ltr">genesys</code> backend on my Ubuntu system (Kernel 6.17.0).</div><div><strong>Important Note:</strong>
 I am not a programmer or a Linux expert. The technical details and 
troubleshooting steps described below were gathered through an extensive
 session with an AI assistant to investigate why my device wasn't 
working.</div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>Device details:</strong></div><ul><li><span><strong>Model:</strong> Plustek OpticFilm 8100</span></li><li><span><strong>USB ID:</strong> 07b3:1824</span></li><li><span><strong>Reported String (sane-find-scanner):</strong> <code dir="ltr">found possible USB scanner (vendor=0x07b3 [PLUSTEK INC], product=0x1824 [Film Scanner(A1D)], chip=GL128) at libusb:001:009</code></span></li></ul><div><strong>What I have tried (based on AI guidance):</strong></div><ol><li><span>Removed <code dir="ltr">ipp-usb</code> and <code dir="ltr">sane-airscan</code> to avoid driverless conflicts.</span></li><li><span>Added the USB ID <code dir="ltr">07b3:1824</code> manually to <code dir="ltr">/etc/sane.d/genesys.conf</code>.</span></li><li><span>Created a custom udev rule for the ID <code dir="ltr">1824</code> to grant user permissions.</span></li><li><span>Ran <code dir="ltr">SANE_DEBUG_GENESYS=255 scanimage -L</code>, which unfortunately produced no output/scanners.</span></li></ol><div>Despite these attempts, <code dir="ltr">scanimage -L</code> and VueScan still fail to detect the scanner, even though <code dir="ltr">lsusb</code> sees it perfectly.</div><div>Since this seems to be a newer revision (ID 1824 instead of the common 130c) using the <strong>GL128 chip</strong>, I am reaching out to see if support can be added to the official backend.</div><div>I am available to provide logs or run specific commands if you can guide me through the process with simple instructions.</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you for your patience and for your work on SANE.</div><div>Best regards,</div><div>--</div></div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><b><font color="#000000"><br></font></b></div><font size="1" face="arial, sans-serif">ARCHITETTO </font><div><font face="arial, sans-serif"><b>ALESSANDRO COAN</b></font></div><div><br></div></div></div></div>
