Now this is really strange:

I had python3-stl installed:

> karl at karl-acer2:~$ LANG=C;apt search python3-stl
> Sorting... Done
> Full Text Search... Done
> python3-stl/testing,now 2.3.2-1+b2 amd64 [installed]
>   stl file and 3d object handling for the Python language
> 
> karl at karl-acer2:~$ 

On a hunch i removed it and that actually fixed the bug!

Cura now works and i can load all STLs.

Reinstalling python3-stl => broken again.

I hope this helps with finding the bug !
