[Android-tools-devel] fastboot broken

I understand from https://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-rc@lists.debian.org/msg532434.html that debian stable’s android platform package do not install the mke2fs actually required by fastboot, but instead use the system mke2fs that necessarily lacks the required libsparse, etc.

As a result, the fastboot installed with debian only works with the complex old twrp style installations used by systems like lineageOS, but does not work with the cleaner modern installation scripts used by systems like grapheneOS: https://grapheneos.org/install#flashing-factory-images

Is there some easy fix? Or should one just uninstall all debian android packages and use only google’s installer?

Jeff
