A warning is displayed on the first change with instructions on
becoming root, though this can be disabled.

What is the value of 'aptitude::Suppress-Read-Only-Warning' in your
configuration?

 $ apt-config -c .aptitude/config dump | grep -i
aptitude::suppress-read-only-warning
