You possible did infer that I was quite shocked when I first went to
add support for “PATTERN:ARCH” on the command line.
Since my response was quite long, attempting to cover the full scope
of the issue, I will reiterate the point which applies to your
original report: if this is to work in the future, the syntax would
be:
$ aptitude COMMAND '?narrow(~i, ~nmodule-init-tools)=matched'
which for most commands is straight forward. For search, I wonder if
it should display an entry for every version or still only one per
package, if so, which version gets used when there are multiple?
Anyway, as hinted in my follow-up to #687474 a solution for the
inconsistency between commands is near.

P.S. super wishlist: detect if a search pattern with ~i, or another
version-ish term was used, without ?narrow and hint the user that they
maybe intended to include the later.
