All four of my machines are the same -- never used multi-arch or
whatever that is on them.

Anyway, aptitude needs a re-sync command!

If one removes /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates maybe it will get regenerated
without the problem, but one loses lots more other states too. Same for
purging and re-installing aptitude.
