There's an undo function in aptitude, bound to Ctrl-U. This easily
reverts such mistakes (if they're noticed quickly enough).

I'd consider that rather annoying, but I can understand the
motivation.

If we do so, we should

a) make it optional (on by default is fine for me),
b) only ask for confirmation if it would catch more than one package
   (i.e. for whole branches)
c) only for "m", not for "M" (as the subject may suggest)

Possibly. But there are definitely cases where this happens without
mistyping key-press commands.
