For the reasons discussed in the bug report, this is difficult to
detect.
I changed the message so it gives more hints about what can be going
wrong:
│ E: Subprocess exited with an error, probably due to one of these reasons:
│ - incorrect password,
│ - insufficient permissions to become root, or
│ - root login disabled
Commited and will be present in the next release, so marking as
+pending.
