This is very strange, did it happen to you since then or was it a
one-off?

I imagine that so many years later, you cannot even remember this, sorry
that it was not handled more quickly.

My best guess, seeing that you were using unstable, is that it was a
temporary problem with aptitude or apt that has been fixed since then.
