So is the solution Shift + Mouse Select satisfactory?

I am marking this as +moreinfo in the meantime.

And frankly I'd leave the bug open in the case that it's useful for
other people who find the same problem (maybe they want to submit a bug
report and see the solution), but I don't think that this is going to be
implemented in other way at least in the near future.
