I think that it's a duplicate of #316633 or #798898.

I am not sure if this is really a new problem.  I would be surprised if
the reason for this is because aptitude never supported dependencies of
virtual packages.  On the other hand, I don't see why the behaviour has
changed, because that part of aptitude was not touched for a long time.

Maybe a recent change in libapt that aptitude needs to cope with?


But I am confused about your previous message that "purge && install"
solved the situation -- did it, or not?

If yes, what was the action in the original report, "upgrade"?  Or what
is the difference between the actions behind the original report and the
workaround?
