It would help to know why it is broken, e.g. if there are missing
recommends, otherwise there's not much that one can do.  Incidentally,
the newly released 0.8 has better support for this.

The curses interface says why the package is broken, I am not sure if
cmdline's "why" does the same, but without knowing the source of the
problem not much can be done.

In any case, upgrading in the middle of a transition doesn't seem like a
great idea, in those cases it's better if you choose the solution of
"keep existing versions of these packages", rather than insisting in
upgrading them (otherwise aptitude tries to upgrade, even if some
brokenness happens).
