The thing is that apt and aptitude should ignore the version
8:6.8.9.9-7+b1 unless you have it installed and want to reinstall, or
perhaps if there's an existing problem with that version ("pending
configure" or so).
Other operations like install, upgrade and so on, if the package doesn't
have any problem, should require the most recent/candidate version
(8:6.9.2.10+dfsg-2 or 8:6.8.9.9-7+b2), instead of this:
E: Can't find a source to download version '8:6.8.9.9-7+b1' of 'imagemagick:i386'
E: Internal error: couldn't generate list of packages to download
What does "dpkg --status imagemagick" say?
