That is a good point. I am stumbling over it every now and then, too.

My understanding of auto-installed is that the package was automatically
installed. If I install a package manually, it is clearly not auto-
installed.
But as I am sometimes really annoyed by non-existing or too heavy
package dependecies, I started to build meta-packages with the
(in my point of view) "correct" dependencies.
Since then, life became much easier. I do not have to work against
the package management any more.
