It works fine around here:

  # aptitude markauto 1234
Couldn't find any package matching "1234", but there are 15 packages which contain "1234" in their description:
    modem-cmd modem-cmd:i386 libmath-nocarry-perl libnxml0 libnxml0:i386 tcs tcs:i386 postgresql-9.5-prefix postgresql-9.5-prefix:i386 libscalar-properties-perl
    golang-github-jinzhu-now-dev libnxml0-dbg libnxml0-dbg:i386 libnxml0-dev libnxml0-dev:i386
Unable to apply some actions, aborting

  # aptitude forbid-version 1234
Couldn't find any package matching "1234", but there are 15 packages which contain "1234" in their description:
    modem-cmd modem-cmd:i386 libmath-nocarry-perl libnxml0 libnxml0:i386 tcs tcs:i386 postgresql-9.5-prefix postgresql-9.5-prefix:i386 libscalar-properties-perl
    golang-github-jinzhu-now-dev libnxml0-dbg libnxml0-dbg:i386 libnxml0-dev libnxml0-dev:i386
Unable to apply some actions, aborting

Would you be able to get a backtrace with gdb or valgrind,
aptitude-dbgsym installed, and Control-C after a few seconds when
looping (maybe a couple of minutes with valgrind)?

Cheers.
