Hm, I am not sure about this. Dots are natural parts of the long
description, and I'm not aware of any software doing this. Do you have
any use case why they should be better removed?

They are, your redirection was attached to grep, not cupt.

This is an error by default for security reasons to prevent [replay
attacks][1] against indexes. You can switch that off using the option
'cupt::cache::release-file-expiration::ignore'.
