"aptitude show" removes them.

IMO, dots are an artifact to glue description paragraphs together,
because of requirements of the syntax of the files.  What would happen
if it was decided to have 1-line descriptions, and substitute new
lines with the character "|"?  Descriptions wouldn't be very readable.

Of course, these dots don't have the same nasty effect on readability,
but in my opinion they are not part of the description itself but of
the formatting, and thus they should be removed in user-oriented
operations.

Of course, all of this is pretty low priority, consider ignoring it if
you don't think that it should be changed.

Oh dear.  Undesired effects when sending bug reports 2 hours after
