[Debconf-devel] Bug#636219: debconf-set-selections can't set values (strings) with a hash

Package: debconf
Version: 1.5.36ubuntu4
Severity: important

debconf-set-selections treats all characters after a hash (#) like a comment,
but such debconf keys as console-setup/codeset47 have values with that character.
It's a name of a font and it starts with a hash (#) or a dot (.).

Maybe the man page or command line help should contain info about comments and quoting.
Please extend the parser (regexps) to allow quoting or escaping characters.
