[Debconf-devel] Bug#439763: Similar problem with Puppet 3.7.1

We are having a similar problem with Puppet 3.7.1 (running as a puppet-apply provisioner under Vagrant 1.6.3).

When Puppet installs packages using apt-get, the package installation sometimes hangs when running the mandb postinst trigger (it does not look like it is always the same package which causes the hang); closer investigation reveals that it is in fact the mandb process which hangs because apparently a file descriptor it tries to access has become inaccessible.

Setting DEBCONF_REDIR="" when running puppet-apply seems to help.
