Incidentally, if CIP would be interested in contracting us at Freexian
to help with some of this kind of work (I see they're already an LTS
customer, but this would be more like ongoing development work and I'm
not sure it fits within the scope of our LTS commitments), then that's
an option.  Otherwise it will be best-effort as time for open source
project maintenance permits.
