Marc,

Sorry for the late reaction -- regrettably, there's no notification
on bug reassignment, and I didn't get notified on the original bug
submission because of the wrong package name.

DaCHS is being installed with non-interacive dpkg all the time
(e.g., when building containers), so this must have some other
reason than non-interactivity. I'm not aware of any way to make su
ask root for a password. That would make me suspect that the
maintainer script would somehow run as a non-root user in your setup.
Is there anything magic on your system that might cause this?

[Btw, the su is necessary here to create and configure the database
and then to initialise the DaCHS environment with permissions that
won't cause too much grief later. But there is certainly no
expectation that anyone would ever provide passwords to these su-s,
in particular considering that the dachsroot account does not even
have one at installation time]
