Unfortunately, that won't work :-(
The only solution is to delete /usr/bin/glue entirely, as 1.17 no
longer provides a gui front end. Instead, there are two new packages:
glue-qt and glue-jupyter that provide front ends; see
https://pypi.org/project/glue-core/ So one or both of these will need
to be packaged. (And my guess is that glue-qt will be *much* easier
to package than glue-jupyter.)
As a result of this internal change to glue_core, the glueviz binary
package needs to be replaced by (presumably) the glue-qt package.
Something like:
source: glueviz (= glue-core PyPI package)
-> binary: python3-glue
source: glue-qt
-> binary: glueviz
I don't have the capacity to do this work, I'm afraid.
